Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club

Commodore's Day 2014 is on Saturday 19th July and this year will comprise a large Open Pursuit Sailing Regatta and Summer Day & Night Party. This event is OPEN TO ALL - all ages of racing sailor, all ages of member, all abilities of sailor and all visitors (with a small restriction on type of boat).

There will be two 90 minute pursuit races (first start 10.45), a Club buffet lunch between races and a barbecue post racing with steel band musical accompaniment. Then to round off the day in style a summer party with disco in the Clubhouse from 8pm.

The last time we ran this pursuit race format there was a nailbiting finish with the winner and second place boats from the first race overlapped at the end of the second race and the final regatta positions decided by a matter of centimetres after 3 hours of racing.

The event is also a team event. Visiting boats and Island Barn members and are encouraged to form their own team of 3 boats. Teams can be any combination of classes, single handers, double handers, adults and juniors, visitors and members. Every sailor, regardless of ability, could be in a team. There is just one proviso. If you are an Island Barn member and are chosen to be in the Commodore's team, which will be skilfully chosen to repel the marauding hoards of visiting superstars, the Commodore's team selection takes precedent.

All sailors, in a team or not, are eligible for individual prizes. There will also be team prizes. There is no additional charge for being in a team. Team members should each enter individually and have ONE team member responsible for filling in the Team Entry Form when entering.

Please note this is NOT a Team Racing Event. Team positions will be a simple sum of team member points.

Top team tip 1:     Have a private challenge with other teams for a 3 pint prize (paid by losers!)

Race entry for the two pursuit races is FREE to all members with a nominal charge to visitors. Buffet lunch, post-race barbecue and party are extra, but VERY reasonably priced, with discounts for under 18s. There will be a steel band for the barbecue and disco for the party.
