About Us

  • Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club  is located in West Molesey, near Hampton Court, and is one of the friendliest clubs around (both afloat and ashore!).

about island barn reservoir sailing clubWe offer great facilities for sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding and canoeing.  Our membership rates are amongst some of the most competitive in the UK and we have lots of options, including monthly installment payments and free use of the club boats.  We try our best to help keep the costs of sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding and canoeing affordable for all our members.

Building community at the club is core to what we do.  Not only do we have a busy sailing programme throughout the year (yes, on the hottest and coldest days of the year we are still open) we have excellent with strong Laser, Topper, RS Aero and RS200 fleets plus a wide range of other boats. We provide easy and uncrowded launching from pontoons or the beach and good turnouts.

In November of 2015 we refurbished our club house giving us even more  facilities for sailors and spectators including: bar, cafeteria, training room, indoor and out door seated viewing areas, kit room, changing facilities, toilets and showers.  Outside of the clubhouse we have plenty of  berthing spaces either at both the top of the reservoir for easy launching or at ground level for those who want a bit of protection  from the wind.  We provide space for trailer storage and boat washing facilities with a high pressure hose.   Finally we have large tool sheds to help with those inevitable repairs.

setting-the-spinnaker-on-an-RS200For those wanting to learn to sail or improve their sailing skills Island Barn Reservoir Sailing Club offers both Adult and Junior Training.  Beginner training courses are run over the spring and Summer.  Tuesday evenings is our adult training (TrySail) and Sunday afternoons are when we run our Junior Sailing School (Oppies, Toppers, Lasers and RS Fevas).  If you want to advance your sailing skills then we run TryRace on Tuesday evenings for adults wanting to start racing or improve there racing skills .  For junior sailors we also run training during school holidays (including our popular Summer Sailing School see the club calendar for dates) as well as regularly hosting RYA Zone Squad Training.

To ensure the club is safe for all those sailing we are a RYA accredited club.  We heavily subsidise and encourage all members to complete the RYA training courses for powerboats at our RYA Powerboat Training Centre at the club.   This is great value for money and not only ensures members can safely drive a rescue boat but also gives them a globally recognised qualification.

RS200-open-at-IBRSCEstablished in 1959 and sailing on Island Barn since 1973, we've always run on a 'by the members, for the members and community' basis. This means that we employ no staff; our members run races and rescue boats, serve at the bar and cook the lunch on a rota basis. This enables us to keep dues much lower than elsewhere for a small commitment of three duties per annum.
